Rotary Engine Rebuilds & RX-7 / RX-8 Service in Northern Virginia

The 13B doesn't forgive a shop that doesn't understand it. Enroute does. Apex seals, full rebuilds, FC and FD RX-7, RX-8 — rotary work done right, here in Springfield, VA.

Rotary owners know the problem: almost nobody will touch these engines, and the few shops that will are usually a plane ticket away on the West Coast. So a flooded FD or a tired 13B sits — or gets handed to a shop that learns on your car.

We took the opposite approach and made rotary work a specialty. From the spinning-triangle basics to a fresh rebuild with new apex seals and proper clearances, we keep RX-7s and RX-8s running the way Mazda's engineers intended.

Why rotary owners travel to Enroute

A rotary engine isn't difficult so much as different. Apex seals, oil injection, compression measured in a way piston guys never see — get the details wrong and the engine pays for it. Most general shops simply won't take the risk, so they turn rotary owners away.

We made the opposite choice. Rotary work is a specialty here precisely because so few will do it, and East Coast owners shouldn't have to ship a car across the country for a competent rebuild.

13B rebuilds done right

A rebuild is only as good as the seals, the clearances, and the patience behind it. We inspect housings, fit fresh apex and side seals, check bearings, and reassemble to proper tolerances — then give you a real break-in plan so the work lasts. No shortcuts, because a rotary punishes shortcuts.

RX-7 FC & FD — the maintenance that keeps them alive

The FD's sequential twin-turbo system and aging vacuum lines are famous for a reason. We sort the "rat's nest," address cooling before it becomes a seal problem, and keep fuel and ignition healthy. On the FC, we cover the same fundamentals that decide whether one of these survives another decade.

RX-8 Renesis — compression, flooding & ignition

RX-8s get a bad reputation mostly from neglect. Keep ignition fresh, watch compression, and don't let one flood sit — and they're genuinely great cars. We handle all of it, including the rebuild when an engine has finally earned one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you rebuild 13B rotary engines?+

Yes — rotary rebuilds are a specialty. We handle apex seals, rotor housings, side seals, bearings, and proper clearancing so the engine goes back together right and stays together.

My RX-7 floods or won't start — can you help?+

Yes. Hard starting and flooding are classic rotary symptoms, and the cause can be anything from worn seals to ignition or fuel issues. We'll run a compression test and diagnose it properly instead of guessing.

Do you service the RX-8 (Renesis) too?+

We do. RX-8s share the rotary's needs — compression health, ignition, and the right maintenance habits. We service and rebuild them alongside the FC and FD RX-7.

How often does a rotary need a rebuild?+

It depends entirely on maintenance, how the car is driven, and whether it's been modified. A well-kept rotary can go a long time; a neglected one fails early. A compression test tells us where yours actually stands.

Are you really doing rotary work locally in Northern Virginia?+

Yes. Competent rotary shops are rare on the East Coast, which is exactly why we offer it. We're in Springfield, VA and serve Burke, Lorton, Newington, Kingstowne, Annandale and the surrounding region.
